Research and studies are still on the run to find ways on how science can help people to quit smoking. Everyone knows that smoking is not good for one’s health. But because of the substances included in cigarettes, quitting smoking is a difficult task for majority of smokers. Relatively, since the rise of the popularity of e-cigarettes and vaping, there have been studies that claim vaping can help people to quit smoking. But the question is, is that study accurate enough?
Advocates and supporters of vaping are promoting e-cigarettes as an effective mean to help cigarette smokers to quit. While discontinuing the consumption of nicotine products is the main goal, it is unavoidable that there might be health benefits to a smoker who turned from traditional tobacoo to e-cigarettes. However, this claim si still unproven.
To further the study about this case, researchers hired around 900 individuals (smokers) who want to quit smoking, and assigned half of them to use e-cigarettes and the other half to use nicotine patches, gun and other nicotine replacement products. After one year of observation, here are the things that they have found out:
- 18% of chosen individuals to do vaping has stopped smoking and about 10% of those who used nicotine replacement products had quit.
- Among the successful quitters, 80% of e-cigarette smokers were still vaping while only 9% of the nicotine replacement group individuals were still using the products.
- Phlegm and reports of cough production went down more from yhe e-cigarette group.
With the study, researchers conclude that somehow, sometime, e-cigarettesa nd vaping can help people quit smoking. Also, with wide range of flavors or e-cigarettes, people have more chance of turning to vaping from traditional tobacco smoking. Hence, the studies and research for this claim are still on-going to further the results.
